Spirituality and Health: How finding inner peace enhances your wellness

spiritual health and wellness

I was deep in savasana pose at the end of my yoga class last week when the instructor said “your body is a temple”. I’m sure you’ve heard this before - it’s a common one, especially in the holistic wellness space. But have you ever really considered what that means for you?

Life has a way of showing up with lessons at exactly the right moments. A theme for me this year has been unleashing my spirituality and owning it, and connecting to this side of me has in turn done wonders for my physicality - the nutrition and fitness stuff I’m always talking about.

It was in that moment, lost in savasana, when the lesson showed up in a way it never has before.

The connection between spiritual health and overall wellness

The phrase “your body is a temple” is a metaphor that signifies the body’s role as a vessel that houses the soul. The physical body is a vehicle that carries life force energy, and through it, we get to experience the world.

Spirituality and physicality are essentially 2 sides of the same wellness coin. Addressing both is necessary in order to create actual wellbeing. Neglecting one can leave us feeling off balance and out of alignment. Hence why sometimes we are ticking all of the boxes - meal prep, gym, fruit, vegetables, protein, organic, etc… - and still feel like we aren’t closing in on our goals. The missing link lies on the spiritual side of the coin.

Intention. Mission. Purpose. Reason for Being.

It’s through these deeper connections where we stop going through the motions and find true inner peace.

Understanding inner peace and its importance

Finding inner peace is a journey that requires self-reflection, mindfulness, and a willingness to let go of negativity. It’s about cultivating a deep connection with yourself, as well as the world around you.

Inner peace is crucial for several reasons, all contributing to your overall wellbeing and quality of life. Being at peace with yourself can help reduce stress, improve both mental and emotional health, improve sleep, and increase clarity, focus, and productivity - all of which play a role in physical health.

Practices for cultivating inner peace

From meditation and yoga to journaling and nature walks, there are countless practices and techniques that can help you cultivate inner peace. Ultimately though, it’s a very personal journey that involves adopting practices that promote a sense of calm and balance, whatever that looks like for you.

The beauty of all of this is that by caring for your physical health, you can cultivate more inner peace, happiness, flow, and alignment. Consciously taking care of your physical wellness through food, sleep, exercise, and paying attention to healing and self-care can all support your soul’s journey.

Spirituality and physicality are deeply connected, dancing together throughout your day.

Make the cooking and exercise intentional. Connect deeper to how taking care of your physical health helps your soul shine. And remember to be patient with yourself - this is an ongoing process.

You are supported, loved, and perfect already.
